Symposium norge

Living and working for five weeks at the foot of the larvikite quarry alongside eight sculptors from Japan, Taiwan, Canada, Turkey, Argentina, Belgium, Austria, and Germany has been a deeply enriching experience. Understanding the entire life cycle of the stone (from the extraction of the block to its transformation into sculpture and its exhibition at its place of origin) makes Symposium Norge an exceptional project. It offers a unique opportunity to deepen my understanding of the material and to explore the relationship between landscape, territory and artistic creation.

In my sculptural proposal, Breathing Stone, I pay tribute to the transformative power of nature. The work brings together the traces of hand tools and the precision of industrial cutting, two forms of intervention that engage in dialogue with the material’s own memory. I suggest a movement emerging from within the stone, as if the material itself were alive and in a constant state of transformation.

Breathing Stone will become part of the Stålaker Sculpture Park collection in Larvik, where it will be on public display over the coming year.
