City

Macael marble, 25 x 4.5 x 7 cm / 8 x 19 x 5.2 cm

City represents emptiness, absence. The gaze’s journey over these forms is piercing, cold, and devoid of human warmth. A pale reflection that filters the light until it becomes a surgical piece, hard and with a latent aggression. A metaphor for the lack of correspondence with nature. In it, there is no porosity to harbor life, no textures where small living elements (lichens or small vegetation) can take shelter. Its polished surface leaves no option for life, only for distance. Almost crystallized, its reflection reminds us of the discouragement of the contemporary city. An isolated world, and at the same time, connected through new technologies.

technical data

In this piece, I choose a less warm stone like marble to reflect the coldness of buildings in large cities. With this sculptural ensemble, I show the lack of space between buildings, the aggressiveness of straight planes, the obsession with the aseptic as a way of life: from the building we live in to our private life, everything has to be clean.
