When the mountain collapses

Limestone from Peñaforca, 150 x 95 x 84 cm

This sculpture is a tribute to the imposing Peñaforca, whose grayish summit dominates the horizon of the village. The limestone from Peñaforca, known for its toughness, evokes the resilience of flint, an ancestral material used in wooden plows for cultivating the land.

The work contains a dual reading: a homage to the relentless passage of time and a tribute to the transformation of life. The stratification of the rock, visible in its successive layers, narrates millions of years of sedimentation and transformation, a stony testament to geological history. At the same time, the three fractured strata, resulting from a collapse, give rise to a new organic form, symbolizing life emerging from adversity and the hope that blossoms after destruction.

technical data

The limestone from Peñaforca stands out for its hardness, similar to that of flint. This property makes it resistant to wear and erosion, which explains its dominant presence in the landscape. The visible stratification in the rock is a testament to its sedimentary formation, where successive layers of material have compacted over millions of years.
