Balance
Royal rose granite, 220 x 140 x 100 cm
Balance captures the delicate tension of creation, manifested in three irregular cuts that converge at a center, a pointed «navel» of stone. Since ancient times, the navel, or omphalos, has been a primordial symbol in various cultures, representing the axis mundi, the point of origin of the world. A cylindrical stone, often topped with a point, marked this sacred center.
The navel is the essence of the center, the point from which creation was believed to emanate. By situating it in a specific place, the space was divinized, turning it into the epicenter of existence.
In Balance, this core has fractured into three fragments that do not fit perfectly, leaving a void through which air flows. This air, paradoxically, becomes the element of cohesion, sustaining this fragmented totem of the contemporary era. The wind that passes through the fissures of the stone illuminates a new possibility of change for the near future.
technical data
Pink granite—an intrusive igneous rock—is primarily composed of quartz, feldspar (especially potassium feldspar, which gives it its pink color), and mica. It is a very hard rock, resistant to weathering, which gives it high durability. It has a granular texture, with visible grains of quartz, feldspar, and mica. One of the most well-known pink granites is «Granito Rosa Porriño,» extracted in Galicia, Spain.
