Crack

Alabaster and gold, 22 Ø x  16 cm

The piece features a prominent crack, a scar with its own volume. The gold embedded in the scar evokes ‘kintsugi’, the Japanese art of repairing ceramic fractures with gold. From this rough texture, gold emerges like a flash of life. This work celebrates scars and the integration of contrasting textures—the rough and the polished—as part of the Life Cycle.

technical data

Alabaster, like plasterstone or gypsum, can be scratched with a fingernail. This fine-grained variety of plasterstone is extracted from quarries in Spain, England, or Tuscany. Its softness allows it to be carved into very elaborate shapes.
